19 things I’ve learned in 19 years

Okay I would like to start out by saying THANK YOU for everyone who has made me feel special today, every year on April 15th I’m reminded of how many amazing people I have in my life, and I’m so grateful for all of you! I would also like to say that I literally just sat here for over an hour and typed up a stellar blog post and RIGHT as I was about to hit publish my site crashed and I lost everything I typed. And I’m way mad because I’m not going to be able to remember everything I said before. So I’m sorry if this is less amazing than my other one, because I was pretty proud of it. Well, if you didn’t know, I turned 19 today. And 19 feels pretty old. It doesn’t really feel any different than 18, but it just sounds a lot older. It sounds like I should have my life figured out. When I was younger I idolized 19 year old girls. They weren’t fresh 18 year old baby adults, they were the real deal. 19 year olds had hot boyfriends and their own cars that they drove to their awesome jobs and fun college parties. And I wanted to be one! I was done with sparkly blue eye shadow, braces, and Hannah Montana t-shirts. I wanted to be 19! Well here we are, little Brianne. We made it. And let me tell you, it’s not all it’s cracked up to be! I don’t have a hot boyfriend (but if you know one I could snag, please send him my way), I don’t have my own car, I don’t go to bumpin college parties, and I most definitely don’t have my life figured out. But I did make a list of the things that I HAVE figured out in my 19 years on earth. So read on for some epic spoilers about life.

  1. Don’t take yourself too seriously. It’s okay to laugh at yourself when you fall down stairs in public, and it’s okay to admit that you still watch Hannah Montana. I mean… it’s a good show.
  2. You WILL become like the people you spend your time with. It’s inevitable. So pick good friends. People who make you want to be a better person. You don’t have time for people who squirt ketchup over their entire pile of fries instead of dipping them. These people are monsters.
  3. Learn to forgive and move on. Holding grudges is only hurting one person. You. And that person that screwed you over by dating your 8th grade crush? They’re doing fine, so move on.
  4. Life is too short for bad books, boring movies, and toxic people. Cut them out. Cut them alllll out.
  5. Your mom is your BEST FRIEND. she’s the only one that will be there for you unconditionally. Don’t forget that.
  6. In Pooh Bear, “Kanga” and “Roo” are actually named that because they are kangaroos!!! WHO KNEW.
  7. You can fix a toilet by taking off the top and tightening or loosening the screw that controls the little black ball thing. That’s right, I go to college.
  8. Basketball boys may be the hottest creatures on earth but they will always break your heart, give the nice guys a chance. Especially if they play basketball.
  9. Take as many pictures as you can, but don’t forget to put your phone down and savor moments.
  10. Learn how to be a Hepburn in a world of Kardashians.
  11. Calories don’t count unless you count them, eat that cheeseburger, girl, you’ll be fine.
  12. Don’t plan out every second of your life. I’ve learned that being spontaneous creates the greatest memories.
  13. “E” does not stand for “Extra Fuel” it means you’ll be out of gas, stranded outside of that boy’s house that you are stalking. I speak from experience.
  14. Having guy friends is one of life’s biggest blessings, they will always protect you and bring you up when you’re down, and give you piggy back rides through the snow.
  15. You’re never too old for Disney so don’t pretend like you are.
  16. GOOD MUSIC, GOOD FRIENDS, AND GOOD VIBES= good life.
  17. Learn to work hard!!!! Put your heart and soul into everything you do. It will be worth it I promise.
  18. BREAK THE RULES. but don’t get caught
  19. Life is meant to be ENJOYED! slow down a little, take the scenic route, and learn to love with your whole heart.
